Free Trade Agreements: we participated in the debate in the United States
39 Hemispheric Congress - CAMACOL - United States
It has been a profitable year for us promoting the ideas of free trade and integration throughout international agreements.
Early this year I had the honor of writing a “White Paper” about Free Trade Agreements for the influential “Latin American Chamber of Commerce of the United States.”
This document was published by the Chamber and presented by me in a speech delivered at the Hemispheric Congress that took place in Miami in June with important invited authorities, like the governor of Florida State, Mr. Rick Scott, the Mayor of Miami, Mr. Francis Suarez and leaders from the region.

It was also an honor to be a supporting member of the Commercial Missions that took place in Buenos Aires (last September) and in Costa Rica (October 29 and 30).
I strongly believe there is not a more current issue nowadays than the debate between free commerce and protectionism.
We are undergoing a new wave of protectionism and nationalism that goes against globalization and results in events like Brexit, the so called commercial wards and many separatist attempts.
We are living in a unique moment in the history of the world. The third industrial revolution is taking place through the merger between scientific knowledge and technology. This will create unimaginable new products which will allow people to have a better life. At the same time, we are attending another extraordinary event: “The revolution in communication which is creating a more connected world.” If we join these two amazing events, we might realize we are living a fascinating moment in which opportunities are within reach, but only for those who could see it.
